Golden Key Print

During the finale, a Golden Key will be given to local government officials and Mayors who have supported the children’s participation in the World Championship in Cooperation.

Before accepting the Golden Key, they make a promise, a promise to continue working for the children's future, once home in their own community. It is a commitment to the children and will be read to all assembled.

The recipients of the Golden Key are invited to:

  • The nightbuilding 1st of June
  • The midnightmeeting 1st of June
  • As guests of honour at the guided tour around the arena of the World Championship in Cooperation
An astronaut or cosmonaut hands over the key to a child who in turn hands it over to their local government official.

After receiving the Golden Key and reading their promise, the ceremony concludes with an astronaut and a representative of indigenous peoples. It will remind the decision-makers of their mission; to bring the wisdom from the past, insight in the present and courage for the future.

In the Globe Arena 1998, Chief Oren Lyons from Onondaga Nation, North America, proclaimed that every decision made must consider the next 7 generations. This thought-provoking refrain remains a challenge for decision-makers on all levels.

Chief Lyons also said that we need to give our leaders inspiration and strength to continue their good work. We must be able to question and criticise their decisions but if we want good leaders we must support them!
