World CiC - Background Print
The World Championship in Cooperation is the inspired result of combining Globetree’s ongoing work with the Future Vessel, (a collaboration between municipalities and city districts in Sweden and other countries), and the Children’s Meeting Place at the UN Headquarters in Nairobi, which has been developed in cooperation with UNEP (United Nations Environment Program).

The Future Vessel

The Future Vessel is an arena for cooperation across many boundaries; age, profession, culture, nation. The first Future Vessel was built in the Globe Arena in Stockholm 1988. During the 750th anniversary of the City of Stockholm in 2002, over 2000 children, youth and adults from 45 Swedish municipalities or city districts welcomed children from 26 countries around the world.

Children’s Meeting Place

Children’s Meeting Place at the UN grounds in Nairobi was inaugurated in September 2001. The Globetree has received a special assignment from UNEP: “Globetree has been authorized by the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) to run a Children’s Meeting Place at the United Nations grounds in Nairobi, Kenya.”

The Children’s Meeting Place surrounds a big acacia tree where world leaders can meet and talk with children and youth. The Secretary General of the UN Kofi Annan, Prime Minister Göran Persson, Queen Silvia, European Commissioner Margot Wallström and the Mayor of the City of Stockholm have, among many others, recognized the Children’s Meeting Place at UN, Nairobi.
