The Golden Key ceremony was created by Globetree. All the recipients of the key, past and present, will be onstage together with children from their municipality/city district.
Prior to the Future Vessel 1998 we asked children who they wanted to invite as a guest of honour. A boy answered: "An astronaut! They’ve seen it all !"
10 astronauts and cosmonauts came to the Future Vessel 1998. During a conversation with Loren Acton, President of the Association of Space Explorers in USA (ASE) regarding their involvement with the Future Vessel, he explained the tradition of the homecoming expedition handing over a key to the next expedition to enter space.
The Golden Key ceremony was held at the Future Vessels 1998 and 2002 in the Globe Arena. 37 golden keys have been presented and are now placed in City Halls in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Indonesia and Uganda.
